Extraction Dentistry Tooth ReplacementsA denture that can be used immediately after extractions is a popular treatment choice for many people. Treatment of gum disease (periodontitis) often involves the extractions of an entire upper or lower arch.Unfortunately, many patients facing extraction may choose to avoid or delay treatments for a prolonged period.... which can be disastrous for people with active gum disease. Dr. Pohl's patients, those who are facing extractions of an entire arch, are discovering that the entire extraction and replacement procedure can be completed in one day. Socket grafts (filling in extraction sites) and overall boney ridge grafting is completed as needed. Patients who are considering implant supported prosthetic teeth will have traditional implants and mini implants placed.... depending on the choice of treatment plans. Dr. Pohl fabricates an upper or lower immediate denture as needed, providing a snug fite. As the jawbone starts to remodel and shrink back a bit, hard or soft relines are performed to assure an ongoing snug fit. Implant anchored dentures (traditional and/or mini implants) may or may not involve the need for occassional relines.
Best Function - Cosmetics - FitTo idealize the use of immediate dentures, Dr. Pohl recommends the use of implant anchoring devices under the denture so that the denture can snap in for super retention and will help prevent future loss of jawbone.Dental implants will help retain a denture and act like tooth roots to "stimulate" the bone and prevent it from resorbing away. This is especially true for lower dentures which have much less retention versus. upper dentures. Implant devices enable the use of no-palate dentures and can add bite and chewing capabilities to the lower jaw that makes eating favorite foods a pleasure again (peanuts, apples, steak and other foods we miss). Pain, discomfort, speech difficulties and embarrassment over smiling or laughing too hard (fear of denture falling out) becomes a thing of the past. Standard, un-supported dentures can cause significant loss of jawbone and gum tissue during the first few years of denture use.
